Fibromyalgia: The Reason There Will Never Be An Effective Drug
Dr. Robert Boydston, a Chiropractor and Fibromyalgia Doctor in Fresno, Elaborates:
Big pharma is pouring millions of dollars searching for the next big Fibromyalgia wonder drug. There is big money in discovering, patenting, and marketing a drug that could help hundreds of thousands across the country.
Fibromyalgia patients suffer REAL pain, fatigue, insomnia, and brain fog. On the outside they may look healthy, like it shouldn't be possible to feel as terrible as they do. I can tell you from my first hand experience treating fibromyalgia patients everyday at the Boydston Institute, that what most fibro sufferers go through is awful.
Despite the ferocious search for "The Drug" that is going to make it all go away...IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! I am not saying that it is not possible to turn around the life of a fibromyalgia sufferer, I help this happen everyday. It is just that fibromyalgia is not the same for every patient. There are multiple subtle (and not so subtle) shifts in immune function, brain function, hormone balance, thyroid function, gastrointestinal functional, adrenal and blood sugar regulation, and more in a fibromyalgia patient.
When you take a functional neurological, immune, and endocrine approach, and really measure everything, it is clear that everything is "not normal" as is commonly perpetuated by doctors unwilling to really look at function.
The only approach that has a chance to make a real change is to look at EVERYTHING, ALL AT ONCE. That is our approach at the Boydston Institute. We measure everything via specialized lab testing and a complete functional brain and body exam. Fibromyalgia is a label, that essentially says a person has a certain set of symptoms, but it doesn't tell us anything about what we are going to do to change it. This is exactly why we are so focused on function, and getting to the root of the problem.
So while I don't believe there will ever be a drug that is going to make a real difference for fibromyalgia sufferer's...with our BIG PICTURE, WHOLE PERSON approach, we can change lives. Fibromyalgia patients deserve a great quality of life just like the rest of us...and it is possible if the right things are done.
